Post Office

Post Office

A commercial business driven by a social purpose, we want to make sure we are as relevant tomorrow as we are today.

The Post Office has over 11,500 branches across the UK, 97% of these are run with retail partners on an agency or franchise basis. 99.7% of the population live within 3 miles of a Post Office and 93% live within 1 mile. Along with a significant online business, we are the biggest retail network in the UK, with more branches than all the banks and building societies combined.

Our role and reach

Publicly owned following our separation from Royal Mail in 2012, we have modernised 7,500 branches, with over 200,000 extra opening hours and thousands of Post Offices now open early in the morning until late in the evening with many branches open seven days a week. The Post Office continues to evolve and adapt to meet the ever-changing demands of customers. In the last few years, as part of an exciting modernisation and investment programme, over 200 communities now have a brand new Post Office branch.

More than just a Post Office

As a commercial business the Post Office is driven also by its social purpose. As the hub of many towns and villages across the UK it understands the important role the local Post Office branch plays within communities, especially older and lonely people and more vulnerable members of society.

For many, the Post Office remains an important source of their customersโ€™ social interaction as well as providing important access to their essential needs. Postmasters up and down the country offer more than just a range of services, in many cases they are integral to their local community, making a meaningful impact to society within their towns and villages.

The future of the Post Office

We’re developing a new range of products to make sure we have new ways to reinvest in our business, to keep us as relevant tomorrow as we are today. This includes our Customer Hub to bring our products together online and our identity services to enable everyone to prove who they are in a digital world.

We will be a key part of the physical infrastructure that the digital world requires and help make sure everyone can benefit from changing technology.
