Green Lane Day Showcases Local Businesses

13 Aug 2021

Independent businesses in and around Green Lane in Derby’s St Peters Quarter will take centre stage at an event designed to encourage visitors back into the area.

Green Lane Day on Saturday August 21 between 1pm and 3pm has been organised by Derby City Council and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) as part of a programme to help businesses bounce back from the effects of the pandemic.

Attractions will include several Green Lane businesses opening their doors with special offers and activities.

These include dance performances by Nadia Jane Performing Arts, non-alcoholic drinks served by Yada Collective, face painting, glitter tattoos and food tasting and a raffle for a DCFC T-shirt organised and donated by Shooz 4 Kidz to raise money for charity.

Several other organisations will be in attendance including Derby Sporting Communities, St James’ Securities which will update visitors on plans for the new Becketwell development nearby and information and advice from Derbyshire police neighbourhood team.  Growing Derby businesses Project D and Sacred Bean will also be on hand with a selection of hand-made doughnuts and locally ground coffee.

Helen Wathall, chair of St Peters Quarter BID, said: “As people are increasingly returning to the city centre both during the day and in the evening, this is a great opportunity to remind everyone about the hidden gems in St Peters Quarter including Green Lane and the surrounding area.

“We hope that Green Lane Day will encourage people to come and see for themselves the great range of independent businesses in this part of the city centre and enjoy a family-friendly event in the heart of the city centre.”

Co-owner of Thai Boran street food restaurant Srikanya Ingthaisong said: “The pandemic has been tough on the hospitality industry and we welcome the opportunity to be part of this event to thank the customers who have supported us and introduce ourselves to people who have not visited us before.  We are hoping for a good turnout on the day.”
